MFC works with partners and community members to develop programs like Community Meals, Food Security Screening at hospitals, and our Farm Skills Training Program. Our programs seek to: increase access to healthy food; support those growing, raising and catching our food; and build community.Merrymeeting Gleaners is an incredible example of what a small MFC pilot program can become. MFC launched and grew the Merrymeeting Gleaners program for five years. As Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program takes on the Gleaners in July 2021 the program connects 125 volunteers, partners with over 35 farms and 37 recipient sites in 17 towns, and distributes over 50,000 lbs of fresh produce to our communities annually! Your donation supports programs that can connect and support the health of our communities!

MFC works with partners and community members to develop collaborative events, resources, and programs like Community Meals, Food Security Screening at hospitals, expanding SNAP/Maine Harvest Bucks at area Farmers’ Markets, and our Farm Skills Training Program. Our programs seek to: increase access to healthy food; support those growing, raising and catching our food; and build community.

Donations received through this campaign will help us remove barriers to participation in our programs, particularly the Farm Skills Training Program. In this program, participants learn basic job skills and farm skills through a network of partners that support the paid 11 week training program. Barriers such as transportation, childcare, work clothing, and food are addressed through our network, so the program is accessible to all who are interested. Ongoing paid work experiences on area farms and career support are also part of our commitment to participants and to building a more resilient local food system.
